Why a Van - Pantoja rematch?

Because the first fight never really happened. At UFC 323, in December 2025, Pantoja went down in the opening exchanges and dislocated his arm: the fight was waved off at 26 seconds, the belt changed hands, and nobody read the ending as a sporting verdict.

Van therefore arrives as a champion whose reign is still being questioned, something he began to answer in May by stopping Tatsuro Taira in the fifth round. At 24, he is on a seven-fight winning streak. Pantoja had defended the title four times before that fall, and this time he comes in as the bookmakers' pick.

What about the co-main event?

Arman Tsarukyan (23-3) - Mauricio Ruffy (14-2), at lightweight, is booked for five rounds: it is a title eliminator, and the winner is expected to face champion Justin Gaethje.

It was not meant to look like this. Tsarukyan was due to face Charles Oliveira, who withdrew; the UFC announced Ruffy on August 5. The Fighting Nerds Brazilian comes in off a first-round knockout of Michael Chandler in June.

What else is worth watching?

The main card also lines up Patricio Pitbull - Doo Ho Choi at featherweight, Renato Moicano - Brian Ortega at lightweight and Alonzo Menifield - Iwo Baraniewski at light heavyweight.

The prelims carry two heavyweight bouts, Gable Steveson - Sean Sharaf and Tai Tuivasa - Robelis Despaigne, plus Marlon Vera - Charles Jourdain at bantamweight and Edmen Shahbazyan - Brunno Ferreira at middleweight.

The early prelims open with Giga Chikadze - Joanderson Brito and Michael Aswell Jr. - Joo Sang Yoo at featherweight, Casey O'Neill - Eduarda Moura at women's flyweight and Ryan Gandra - Osman Diaz at middleweight.

One fight is missing: the women's bantamweight title bout between Kayla Harrison and Amanda Nunes, postponed after Harrison's neck surgery.
