Alexander Zverev (2) beat Italy's Flavio Cobolli (10) in five sets: 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1, after 4hr 16min on court.
At 29, the German lands his first Grand Slam title after losing four major finals — the 2020 US Open to Dominic Thiem, Roland-Garros 2024 to Carlos Alcaraz and the 2025 Australian Open to Jannik Sinner. He is the first German man to win a Grand Slam singles title since Boris Becker.
The fourth set was the turning point: trailing in the tie-break, Cobolli reeled off four straight points from 3-1 down to take the set. Zverev answered with a double break in the decider.
Who won the 2026 Roland-Garros women's title?
Mirra Andreeva (8) beat Polish qualifier Maja Chwalińska in straight sets: 6-3, 6-2.
It is her first Grand Slam title too. She becomes the fourth Russian woman on the Roland-Garros roll of honour, after Anastasia Myskina (2004), Svetlana Kuznetsova (2009) and Maria Sharapova (2012, 2014).
An edition without favourites
Rare for a Grand Slam: no former major winner reached the semi-finals, in either the men's or the women's draw.
