How did Arthur Gea beat Ugo Humbert?

In 1hr 47min, in an all-French match that was on the cards from the draw. Gea, 21 and ranked 56th, takes the first set, drops the second, then lets Humbert win just one game in the decider.

He had already been made to work in the first round on Wednesday against Portugal's Jaime Faria: after losing the first-set tiebreak, he won 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-2.

In the last 32 he meets Ben Shelton (No. 3), who beat Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 7-6(6). The American is the US Open runner-up; Gea, a lucky loser from qualifying, reached the fourth round there.

He now faces Karen Khachanov (No. 26), who needed three tiebreaks to get past Britain's Arthur Fery: 7-6(6), 6-7(5), 7-6(2).

How did Quentin Halys escape Alexander Blockx?

By saving two match points in the second-set tiebreak, which he won 11-9. A set down against the Belgian (No. 27), he wins 4-6, 7-6(9), 6-4. In the first round he had beaten Hong Kong qualifier Coleman Wong, 6-4, 7-6(5).

Next up is a rematch: Alexander Zverev, the top seed, who beat Wu Yibing 6-4, 7-6(4). The German beat Halys in the second round of the US Open in five sets and 4hr 36min, in a match that finished at 2:15am.
