The 2026-27 Ligue 1 season got under way on Friday 21 August. All nine matches of the opening round have now been played.

The talking points
PSG dropped points on their first outing. Two down at half-time at Roazhon Park after goals from Sebastian Szymański (10') and Esteban Lepaul (38'), the champions salvaged a draw through a Ferran Torres brace (71', 83').
Marseille and Lens made a statement. Marseille tore Strasbourg apart 4-0 on opening night, and Lens beat Auxerre 5-2 at Bollaert — carrying on from the 2026 Coupe de France they lifted in May.
Both promoted sides took a point. Le Mans, back in the top flight after sixteen years away, held Brest to a 2-2 draw. Troyes, up after three seasons in Ligue 2, kept a clean sheet against Paris FC.
Saturday night was tight: three of the five matches ended goalless or level, with only Lyon winning comfortably away from home (0-2 at Toulouse).

The season format
Ligue 1 keeps 18 clubs for a fourth season running — 34 matchdays, from 21 August 2026 to 29 May 2027.
Troyes and Le Mans come up from Ligue 2. The Trophée des Champions is played a week after this opening round.
PSG, holders of the Champions League, began their season with a draw at Rennes.
