LaLiga 2026-27: matchday 1 results

The 2026-27 LaLiga season began on Saturday 15 August, but its opening round stretched across twelve days, all the way to Thursday 27 August: clubs whose internationals went deep at the World Cup had their fixtures pushed back. Here are the results so far and the fixtures still to come.

The talking points

All three promoted sides handled their return well. Racing Santander, up as second-division champions, held Villarreal to a 2-2 draw at El Sardinero after leading 2-0 — both visiting goals arriving in first-half stoppage time (Pape Gueye 45', Nicolas Pépé 45'+1). Deportivo La Coruña took a point off Elche (1-1), Aubameyang opening the scoring on 21 minutes. Only Málaga lost, 2-0 at Atlético.

Sevilla got out of it from the penalty spot, twice. A goal down inside four minutes to Rayo Vallecano, they turned the game around through Guridi (52') and a Peque penalty in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

Alavés finished strongly. Held for a long time by a Getafe side down to ten men since the 42nd minute (Femenía sent off), the Vitoria club scored three times in seventeen minutes (Tenaglia 73', then two in stoppage time).

The top of the table will have to wait. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Celta only start this week: the matchday-1 standings will not mean much before Friday.
